Conveyor Belting by Province and City

Find conveyor belting suppliers, splicing and maintenance contractors and equipment suppliers in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, the North West, KwaZulu-Natal and every other province.

Suppliers and contractors on our network work in all nine provinces, from the coalfields and platinum belt to the ports. Choose your province or town to read about local conditions and request quotes.

Gauteng

Gauteng is the country's densest industrial region, and most of its conveyor demand comes from the Witwatersrand. Old gold dumps on the Reef are being reprocessed, deep-level gold mines still run on the West Rand, and quarries around Pretoria and Krugersdorp supply crushed stone. The East Rand and Vaal Triangle add steelworks, foundries, cement and process plants, while OR Tambo, City Deep and the large distribution centres use light belting and sorters. The Highveld sits at roughly 1,700 metres, so winters are dry and dusty and summer storms bring heavy rain. The province has the deepest supply base in the country: belt suppliers, splicing crews, pulley shops and engineering workshops.

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga is the heart of South African coal. The Highveld coalfield around eMalahleni, Middelburg, Kriel and Secunda feeds a ring of power stations and the Sasol synfuels complex, mostly over long overland and underground conveyors that run around the clock. Wash plants, ferrochrome smelters and a stainless steel works add heavy process belting, and export coal moves by rail to the Port of Richards Bay. Further east, the Lowveld has citrus packhouses, sugar mills and timber operations near Sabie, and chrome mining around Lydenburg. Highveld winters are cold and frosty, summers bring hail and lightning, and coal dust is a constant fire and maintenance concern.

North West

North West is defined by the Bushveld platinum belt around Rustenburg and Brits and by the Vaal Reef gold fields near Klerksdorp, Orkney and Stilfontein. Platinum shafts, concentrators and smelters use heavy underground and surface belting on hard, abrasive UG2 and Merensky ore, and chrome recovery from tailings adds more. The gold fields now rely heavily on tailings retreatment. Beyond mining, it is a major maize region, with silos, mills and feed plants around Potchefstroom and Lichtenburg. Summers are hot with strong thunderstorms, winters are dry and dusty, and many sites are far from big cities, so a local splicing crew matters when a belt goes down.

Limpopo

Limpopo combines some of the country's newest and biggest mining projects. The Waterberg coalfield around Lephalale supplies the Medupi and Matimba power stations, the platinum open pit near Mokopane moves vast tonnages of ore, and the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex around Burgersfort holds chrome and platinum mines. Phalaborwa has a long-running copper operation, and diamond mining continues near Musina. Polokwane serves as the regional hub for engineering, farm equipment and logistics, while citrus, tomato and mango packhouses add lighter belting. Summers are very hot, dust and heat shorten roller and belt life, and distances between sites are long, so suppliers and splicing crews are usually based in Polokwane.

Northern Cape

The Northern Cape is South Africa's iron ore and manganese heartland. Open-pit iron ore mines around Kathu and Sishen load trains bound for Saldanha, and the Kalahari manganese field near Hotazel and the Postmasburg area supplies the export chain. Belts here are wide, fast and heavily loaded. Kimberley's diamond heritage continues with smaller operations, Namaqualand has copper and zinc, and the Orange River at Upington supports table grapes, dates and packhouses. Conditions are harsh: extreme summer heat, fine red dust, cold winter nights and very long distances. Suppliers and splicing crews often travel hundreds of kilometres, so planned shutdowns and local spares holding matter.

Free State

The Free State is a grain province with a mining past and a chemical present. Maize, wheat and sunflower farming fills silos and mills around Kroonstad, Bethlehem and Bloemfontein, which use enclosed belts and bucket elevators. The Goldfields around Welkom are in long decline but still move tailings and underground rock. Sasolburg is the centre of coal-based chemicals and fuels, and Lethabo power station on the Vaal supplies electricity from a nearby opencast colliery. Bloemfontein is a road and rail logistics hub on the N1. The climate is continental: hot summers, hail, hard winter frosts and fine dust in dry months, which affects outdoor belts, idlers and cleaners.

KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal is South Africa's gateway for bulk and containers. The Port of Richards Bay exports coal and handles dry bulk, while the Port of Durban is the busiest container port in the country. Sugar mills dot the coast, northern towns such as Newcastle and Dundee have steel and coal operations, and the Pinetown, Pietermaritzburg and Isipingo industrial areas support paper, packaging, chemicals and food processing. Aggregate quarries serve a steady construction market. The coast is hot and humid, with salt air that corrodes steel, idlers and pulleys, and heavy summer rain affects outdoor belts. Suppliers and splicing crews are concentrated around Durban, Richards Bay and Pietermaritzburg.

Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape has fewer mines than the northern provinces, but its ports and factories create steady belting demand. The Port of Ngqura at Coega and the Port of Gqeberha handle manganese and other bulk cargo, the Coega special economic zone attracts new plants, and the Kariega and East London automotive clusters run assembly lines with component and parcel conveyors. Citrus packhouses in the Gamtoos and Sundays River valleys, dairy processing and aggregate quarries add to the mix. Coastal air is salty and windy, which corrodes steel parts and dries out exposed belting. Suppliers are centred in Gqeberha and East London and serve a wide, thinly spread inland market.

Western Cape

The Western Cape has no large coal or ore mines, yet it relies on belting at its ports, packhouses and plants. The Port of Cape Town handles containers and fruit, the Port of Saldanha loads iron ore and other bulk cargo arriving by rail from the Northern Cape, and the Atlantis and Bellville industrial areas support food, packaging and manufacturing. Boland and Hex River packhouses, wine and juice plants, and Garden Route timber and sawmills use lighter belts. Winters are wet and windy, summers are dry and hot, and salt air shortens the life of exposed steel idlers, frames and pulleys near the coast.
