A used conveyor belt for sale can save a plant money, provided it suits the job. Second hand belting often comes from mines and plants that have replaced a drive, shortened a line or upgraded a belt that still has life left. ConveyorBelting.co.za is a free quote-request service. Tell us the width, length, strength and use, and we pass your request to independent suppliers of used conveyor belting who quote you directly. We do not sell belting ourselves, the request is free and you are under no obligation to accept any quote.

Where used conveyor belting comes from

Used belting is rarely scrap. Most of it is belt taken off a line before the carcass is finished. Typical sources include:

  • Belts removed during a route change or a shortened conveyor
  • Belts replaced early because of repeated damage or a change of duty
  • Surplus rolls from a project that was cancelled or resized
  • End-of-life belts that still have good cover on one section

Suppliers sort these by width, ply rating and remaining cover so buyers can match them to lighter duties.

How to judge a used conveyor belt for sale

Ask the supplier for the belt width, number of plies, EP or NN carcass, cover thickness left on both sides and the length per roll. Check the edges for fraying, look for cuts, ply separation and old repairs, and ask whether the belt was used on abrasive ore, oil or heat. Steel-cord belts need a magnetic or X-ray inspection report before reuse. A second hand conveyor belt that was fire-resistant underground should only be reused where the original rating is still correct and permitted.

Where used belting works well

Used belting suits lighter or shorter lines: feeder belts, stockpile conveyors, transfer chutes, farm and workshop conveyors, and temporary installations. It is also used outside conveyors as wear liners, skirt rubber, bin liners and floor protection. It is a poor choice for a long, high-tension main drift conveyor or a line that carries people, food or hot material. When in doubt, ask the supplier for a written description of the duty it is suitable for.

Splicing and delivery

A used belt almost always needs new joints. Ask whether it is sold in roll lengths, cut to length or pre-spliced, and whether the price covers a vulcanised joint or mechanical fasteners. Heavy rolls need a forklift or crane at your gate, so confirm delivery to your site and who offloads. Cost depends on width, ply rating, cover left, length, joints, transport and the condition of the stock. A site visit helps avoid ordering belt that is the wrong grade.

Comparing used conveyor belts quotes

Prices change with rubber and steel costs, the exchange rate and stock levels. When quotes arrive, check:

  • Exact specification: width, carcass and strength, cover grade and thickness, or the part number, size and standard.
  • Quantity and units: per metre, per roll, per item or per set, and any minimum order or cutting charge.
  • Lead time: ex stock, or imported or made to order, and how long that takes.
  • Delivery and VAT: transport to site, offloading of heavy rolls, whether VAT is included and how long the price holds.

What to include in your request

  • Belt width, length and strength rating or ply count
  • Material carried and the type of duty
  • Cover thickness you can accept
  • Whether you need splicing or fasteners as well
  • Delivery town and offloading facilities

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell used conveyor belts?
No. ConveyorBelting.co.za is a free quote-request service. We pass your request to independent suppliers of used and new belting who quote you directly. There is no charge for the request and no obligation to accept any quote.
Is a second hand conveyor belt safe to use?
It can be, if it is inspected and matched to the duty. Check cover thickness, edges, ply separation and old repairs. Do not reuse a belt for a heavier, hotter or longer application than it was built for, and keep to the relevant Mine Health and Safety or OHS requirements.
How much cover should be left on a used belt?
There is no single figure. Light duty lines can accept belt with moderate wear, while heavy ore duty needs thick covers. Ask for measured top and bottom cover and compare it with the original grade. The supplier should state the belt's remaining life in plain terms.
What details should I send for a quote?
Send the belt width, length, number of plies or strength rating, cover type, material carried and the conveyor speed and length. Photos of the existing belt help. Also state your delivery town and whether you need splices or fasteners included.
