Conveyors in Kriel

Kriel is a small coal town surrounded by collieries that were developed to feed the Kriel and Matla power stations, which burn coal delivered mainly by conveyor directly from the mines. The same long belts, transfer towers and stockyards define the local landscape, and belt cleaning, spillage control and idler replacement are constant concerns. Maize farms around the town add seasonal grain handling. Winters are cold and dry, summers are wet with frequent lightning and hail. Kriel is a considerable distance from larger centres, so most work is done by contractors based in eMalahleni, Ogies and Secunda who handle emergency repairs, planned shutdowns and spares holding.

Typical conveyor belt hire requests in the area come from:

Coal mines and power stations: temporary stockpiling and truck loading at small coal operations and during breakdowns
Cement, steel and process plants: temporary conveyors for shutdowns, clean-ups and contract material moves
Grain silos, sugar mills and packhouses: harvest peak hire for grain, sugar and fertiliser loading and intake
Warehouses and distribution centres: telescopic and portable conveyors for container and truck loading at peak times
Quarries and sand mines: mobile radial stackers and feed conveyors for contract crushing and stockpile building
Open-pit iron ore, manganese and diamond mines: hired stacking and feed conveyors for contract crushing and short-term ore moves
