Conveyors in Kriel

Kriel is a small coal town surrounded by collieries that were developed to feed the Kriel and Matla power stations, which burn coal delivered mainly by conveyor directly from the mines. The same long belts, transfer towers and stockyards define the local landscape, and belt cleaning, spillage control and idler replacement are constant concerns. Maize farms around the town add seasonal grain handling. Winters are cold and dry, summers are wet with frequent lightning and hail. Kriel is a considerable distance from larger centres, so most work is done by contractors based in eMalahleni, Ogies and Secunda who handle emergency repairs, planned shutdowns and spares holding.

Typical belt cleaners and scrapers requests in the area come from:

Coal mines and power stations: primary and secondary cleaners on coal belts where wet fines build up on the return side
Cement, steel and process plants: cleaners and magnets on cement, steel and recycling plant belts
Grain silos, sugar mills and packhouses: scrapers and skirting that control dust and sticky residue on grain, sugar and fertiliser lines
Warehouses and distribution centres: light cleaners and guards on parcel and baggage belts to keep debris away from rollers
Quarries and sand mines: robust blades and overband magnets under crushers and on aggregate stockpile belts
Open-pit iron ore, manganese and diamond mines: heavy-duty cleaners on high-tonnage iron ore and manganese belts
